About Michelle
Michelle spent much of her childhood with horses. She began taking riding lessons when she was seven
years old and started dressage lessons shortly thereafter. As a teenager, Michelle participated in three
North American Junior/Young Rider competitions with her horse,
Marc O’Polo. While competing as a Young Rider, Michelle was the
high-scoring rider of the 1993 gold medal Region 2 team, finishing
second in both the Preliminary test and individually in the Team
test. She has competed in the Festival of Champions in Gladstone,
New Jersey at Prix St. Georges was invited by USDF
to participate in the NAYRC clinics with Conrad Schumacher.

In 2001, Michelle graduated from Drake Law School in Des Moines,
Iowa, and upon passing the bar, worked as a Judicial Law Clerk in the
Frederick County Circuit Court in Frederick, Maryland. During this
time, she continued her dressage instruction with Dutch-born Bereiter
Fred Weber. While in Maryland, Michelle qualified for the USDF
Regional Championships and BLM Championships on her Holsteiner,
R'gonaut. In 2003, she returned home to Iowa to pursue her love of
riding at Shellhaven Farm. She has qualified for numerous USDF
Regional Championships in Regions 1, 2 and 4, as well as the BLM
championships. In addition, she has taught clinics both locally and
out-of-state. Currently, Michelle is finishing up a Master's degree in
Library and Information Science while continuing to train her horses,
Iron Naen, Doekele, and Sabrina.
