About us
With few boarding facilities in the area at the time,
Vicky and Marty purchased property in beautiful rural
Mt. Vernon, Iowa with the intention of constructing a
professional caliber stable to serve as a home base for
the Johnson's horses. Construction of the facility began
in 1993 and was completed in 1994. This facility later
began to serve as a springboard for Michelle's riding and
training career. Since the stable's construction,
Shellhaven Farm has hosted clinics with Jochen
Hippenstiel (2005- present), Paul Kauten, and will be
hosting Spanish Riding School instructor Herwig
Radnetter in 2008. Michelle and Vicky have also
conducted clinics at Shellhaven in association with the
Iowa Lipizzan Association.

Shellhaven is blessed to have four enthusiastic and experienced
employees:

Bethany Behrle - Barn Manager - A recent graduate of the
Kirkwood Equestrian Program, Bethany owns two horses  of her
own and in her free time starts young horses under saddle for her
clients.

Jessica Harris - Originally from Maryland and  Kirkwood
Equestrian Program graduate, Jessica  has extensive experience
working in professional stables and handling horses from various
equestrian disciplines.

Shows and Holidays
Anna Horak - A horse-enthusiast her entire life, Anna owns
three horses of her own and teaches lessons to children.
Veterinary Care - Shellhaven Farm has
a long-standing association with Dr.
Abraham and Abraham's Equine Clinic.
Services provided by Dr. Abraham's
clinic include routine inoculations and
worming, surgery, radiography,
Shockwave therapy, diagnostic and
laboratory services.

Farrier
Farrier - Rod Peyton is a
truly gifted farrier who has
provided us not only with
great tips on thrush
treatment, but also amazing
homemade peach jam.
